U.S. exports of Prepared foods, beverages decreased 7.04 percent through July to $3.7 billion
U.S. exports of Prepared foods, beverages decreased 7.04 percent from $3.98 billion to $3.7 billion through the first seven months of 2023 when compared to the same period the previous year, according to WorldCity analysis of the latest U.S. Census Bureau data.
The category ranked 59 through July among the roughly 1,265 export commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 53 for the last full year with a total value of $6.83 billion, a $277.16 million, 3.90 percent decreased from the 2021 total.
Through July of this year the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 Mexico, No. 3 South Korea, No. 4 China and No. 5 The Netherlands. The leading gateways were No. 1 Detroit Ambassador Bridge, Mich., No. 2 Port of Long Beach, No. 3 Port Laredo, No. 4 Port of Los Angeles and No. 5 Port of New York.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:
- U.S. exports to No. 1 Canada increased $62.38 million, 6.62 percent, (27.12 percent market share).
- U.S. exports to No. 2 Mexico increased $7.48 million, 2.07 percent, (9.98 percent market share).
- U.S. exports to No. 3 South Korea decreased $97.28 million, 31.26 percent, (5.78 percent market share).
- U.S. exports to No. 4 China increased $19.39 million, 11.05 percent, (5.26 percent market share).
- U.S. exports to No. 5 The Netherlands decreased $26.27 million, 16.81 percent, (3.51 percent market share).
All totaled, 51.66 percent of all these Prepared foods, beverages exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through July of this year. That is equal to $1.91 billion of the $3.7 billion total.
