South Africa’s total trade with the United States was $1.5 billion in March, a change of 6.22 percent from the same month one year ago. The change in exports was -4.69 percent and the change in imports was 13.23 percent. South Africa ranked No. 38 among U.S. trade partners in March. It had ranked No. 42 for the same month last year.

The top three U.S. exports by value in March were Gasoline, other fuels, (2) Tractors, and (3) Motor vehicle parts. The top three U.S. imports from South Africa, also by value, were Unwrought platinum in various forms, (2) Passenger vehicles, and (3) Articles with precious metals. By tonnage, the top three U.S. exports were (1) Gasoline, other fuels, (2) LNG, other petroleum gases, and (3) Petroleum products. The top three U.S. imports, also by tonnage, were (1) Misc. mineral or chemical fertilizers, (2) Granulated slag from iron or steel, and (3) Ash and residues, with metal content.
