Cambodia’s total trade with the United States was $980.38 million in March, a change of 10.42 percent from the same month one year ago. The change in exports was 18.26 percent and the change in imports was 10.22 percent. Cambodia ranked No. 47 among U.S. trade partners in March. It had ranked No. 52 for the same month last year.

The top three U.S. exports by value in March were Passenger vehicles, (2) Soybean oilcake, and (3) Sugar and starch residues. The top three U.S. imports from Cambodia, also by value, were Solar panels, etc., (2) Handbags, wallets, and (3) Rubber tires. By tonnage, the top three U.S. exports were (1) Sugar and starch residues, (2) Soybean oilcake, and (3) Soybeans. U.S. trade with Cambodia rose 5.58 percent through March

Cambodia’s trade with the United States increased to $2.73 billion through the first three months of 2024, according to a WorldCity analysis of latest U.S. Census Bureau data. That’s 5.58 percent above its total trade during the same time period last year ago. U.S. exports to Cambodia decreased 26.39 percent while U.S. imports from Cambodia rose 6.74 percent. The U.S. deficit with Cambodia was $2.6 billion.

Through March, the top five among the nation’s airports, seaports and border crossings were No. 1 Port of Los Angeles; No. 2 Port of Newark; No. 3 Port of Savannah, GA; No. 4 Port of Long Beach; and No. 5 Port of Houston. During the same period the previous year, the top five were No. 1 Port of Los Angeles; No. 2 Port of Newark; No. 3 Port of Savannah, GA; No. 4 Port of Long Beach and No. 5 Port of Houston. In the current time period, the top five accounted for 75.67 percent of Cambodia’s U.S. trade.

Among those top five:

  • Trade with No. 1 Port of Los Angeles rose 52.08 percent to $1.3 billion.
    Exports rose 12.09 percent to $16.92 million. Imports rose 52.8 percent to $1.28 billion.
  • Trade with No. 2 Port of Newark fell 7.36 percent to $296.37 million.
    Exports fell 38.95 percent to $1.47 million. Imports fell 7.12 percent to $294.9 million.
  • Trade with No. 3 Port of Savannah, GA fell 18.12 percent to $212.53 million.
    Exports fell 0.08 percent to $7.75 million. Imports fell 18.68 percent to $204.78 million.
  • Trade with No. 4 Port of Long Beach fell 36.19 percent to $132.65 million.
    Exports rose 11.54 percent to $7.49 million. Imports fell 37.78 percent to $125.16 million.
  • Trade with No. 5 Port of Houston fell 4.98 percent to $130.17 million.
    Exports rose 14.12 percent to $2.62 million. Imports fell 5.31 percent to $127.55 million.

Cambodia ranked No. 47 among the United States’ top trade partners through the current period. In the same period one year ago, it ranked No. 50.

Meanwhile, total U.S. trade with the world increased to $1.26 trillion, up 0.48 percent compared to the same period last year. The nation’s exports dropped 0.31 percent to $507.33 billion; imports climbed 1.02 percent to $755.57 billion. The nation’s top five countries so far this year, by value, are Mexico; Canada; China; Germany and Japan. The overall trade deficit was $248.24 billion, up compared to the same period of last year when the deficit was $239.08 billion.

The top five U.S. exports to Cambodia by value through March were the categories of Passenger vehicles; Sugar and starch residues; Soybean oilcake; Motor vehicle parts; and Diamonds, not mounted, respectively. They accounted for 50.76 percent of total exports to Cambodia.

The value of the top five categories of U.S. imports from Cambodia –– Solar panels, etc.; Handbags, wallets; Women’s or girls’ suits, not knit; Rubber tires; and Sweaters, pullovers, vests, knit or crocheted –– accounted for 45.49 percent of all inbound shipments.

Looking more closely at U.S. exports to Cambodia:

  • Passenger vehicles fell 29.64 percent compared to last year to $14.2 million.
  • Sugar and starch residues rose 289.84 percent compared to last year to $8 million.
  • Soybean oilcake totaled $5.86 million. The previous year, there were no exports in this category.
  • Motor vehicle parts rose 2.02 percent compared to last year to $2.94 million.
  • Diamonds, not mounted fell 63.92 percent compared to last year to $2.84 million.

Looking more closely at U.S. imports from Cambodia:

  • Solar panels, etc. fell 21.48 percent compared to last year to $392.48 million.
  • Handbags, wallets rose 4.67 percent compared to last year to $388.14 million.
  • Women’s or girls’ suits, not knit rose 32.89 percent compared to last year to $150.74 million.
  • Rubber tires rose 184.03 percent compared to last year to $150.31 million.
  • Sweaters, pullovers, vests, knit or crocheted rose 7.91 percent compared to last year to $131.66 million.

In the latest annual figures available, Cambodia recorded $11.88 billion in trade with the United States. Total U.S. exports to Cambodia were $ 305.35 million and imports from Cambodia were $11.58 billion. The U.S. deficit with Cambodia was $11.27 billion.
