U.S. imports of Misc. knitted, crocheted garments increased 26.09 percent through November to $1.65 billion

U.S. imports of Misc. knitted, crocheted garments increased 26.09 percent from $1.31 billion to $1.65 billion through the first 11 months of 2022 when compared to the same period the previous year, according to WorldCity analysis of the latest U.S. Census Bureau data.

The category ranked 279 through November among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 293 for the last full year with a total value of $1.43 billion, a $266.52 million, 22.83 percent increase from the 2020 total.

Through November of this year the leading sources were No. 1 China, No. 2 Vietnam, No. 3 Indonesia, No. 4 Cambodia and No. 5 Bangladesh. The leading gateways were No. 1 Port of Los Angeles, No. 2 Port of Newark, No. 3 Port of Long Beach, No. 4 Port of Savannah, Ga. and No. 5 Los Angeles International Airport.

In the last previous full year, the leading sources were No. 1 China, No. 2 Vietnam, No. 3 Indonesia, No. 4 Bangladesh and No. 5 Cambodia. There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 China increased $77.54 million, 14.14 percent, (37.84 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 Vietnam increased $89.69 million, 36.94 percent, (20.1 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 Indonesia increased $35.47 million, 51.36 percent, (6.32 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 Cambodia increased $19.25 million, 34.94 percent, (4.49 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 Bangladesh increased $2.32 million, 3.95 percent, (3.69 percent market share).

All totaled, 72.46 percent of all these Misc. knitted, crocheted garments imports to the United States were shipped from the top five markets through November of this year. That is equal to $1.2 billion of the $1.65 billion total.
