In the last previous full year, the leading sources were No. 1 Mexico, No. 2 Canada, No. 3 Germany, No. 4 China and No. 5 South Korea. The leading sources were No. 1 Port Laredo, No. 2 Port of Houston, No. 3 Port of Virginia, No. 4 Port of Los Angeles and No. 5 Port of Newark.

  • Port of Virginia rose 9.54 percent compared to last year to $544.43 million.
  • Port of Houston fell 23.8 percent compared to last year to $498.02 million.
  • Port of Los Angeles fell 42.66 percent compared to last year to $291.35 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign sources:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 Mexico decreased $86.32 million, 7.75 percent, (20.23 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 Canada decreased $318.27 million, 30.89 percent, (14.03 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 China decreased $85.18 million, 14.62 percent, (9.8 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 Denmark increased $252.3 million, 170.87 percent, (7.88 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 Germany decreased $246.38 million, 40.35 percent, (7.18 percent market share).

All totaled, 59.1 percent of all these Misc. iron or steel structures and parts imports to the United States were shipped from the top five sources through August of this year. That is equal to $3 billion of the $5.08 billion total.
