U.S. imports of Unmanned aircraft decreased 64.56 percent through August to $142.67 million

The category ranked 725 through August among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 536 for the last full year with a total value of $476.68 million, a $192.74 million, 28.79 percent decreased from the 2023 total.

Through August of this year the leading sources were No. 1 Vietnam, No. 2 China, No. 3 Canada, No. 4 Norway and No. 5 Switzerland. The leading sources were No. 1 Port of Los Angeles, No. 2 Los Angeles International Airport, No. 3 Buffalo Peace Bridge, NY, No. 4 Dulles International Airport, DC and No. 5 John F. Kennedy International Airport.

In the last previous full year, the leading sources were No. 1 Malaysia, No. 2 China, No. 3 Vietnam, No. 4 Canada and No. 5 Switzerland. The leading sources were No. 1 Port of Los Angeles, No. 2 Los Angeles International Airport, No. 3 Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, No. 4 San Francisco International Airport, CA and No. 5 Port of Long Beach.

  • Los Angeles International Airport fell 41.67 percent compared to last year to $15.4 million.
  • Buffalo Peace Bridge, NY rose 12.05 percent compared to last year to $14.65 million.
  • Dulles International Airport, DC rose 183.18 percent compared to last year to $12.43 million.
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport rose 43.95 percent compared to last year to $9.38 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign sources:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 Vietnam decreased $2.17 million, 6.11 percent, (23.36 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 China decreased $47.92 million, 65.05 percent, (18.05 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 Canada decreased $207,504, 1.35 percent, (10.59 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 Norway increased $8.65 million, 187.85 percent, (9.29 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 Switzerland increased $2.93 million, 42.24 percent, (6.91 percent market share).

All totaled, 68.2 percent of all these Unmanned aircraft imports to the United States were shipped from the top five sources through August of this year. That is equal to $97.31 million of the $142.67 million total.
