In the last previous full year, the leading sources were No. 1 China, No. 2 Mexico, No. 3 Canada, No. 4 Japan and No. 5 Germany. The leading sources were No. 1 Port Laredo, No. 2 Port of Los Angeles, No. 3 Port of Newark, No. 4 Port of Houston and No. 5 Pembina Border Crossing, ND.

  • Port of Los Angeles rose 35.48 percent compared to last year to $122.32 million.
  • Port of Newark fell 4.28 percent compared to last year to $94.15 million.
  • Port of Houston fell 27.85 percent compared to last year to $58.97 million.
  • Pembina Border Crossing, ND fell 24.98 percent compared to last year to $32.78 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign sources:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 Mexico decreased $7.96 million, 5.57 percent, (18.24 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 China decreased $31.29 million, 21.8 percent, (15.17 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 Canada decreased $4.64 million, 4.11 percent, (14.6 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 Japan increased $20.03 million, 25.15 percent, (13.47 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 India increased $20.06 million, 91.64 percent, (5.67 percent market share).

All totaled, 67.14 percent of all these Train and locomotive parts imports to the United States were shipped from the top five sources through August of this year. That is equal to $497.09 million of the $740.41 million total.
