U.S. imports of Miscellaneous electrical machinery increased 21.23 percent through August to $12.7 billion

The leading sources were No. 1 Chicago O'Hare International Airport, No. 2 Port Laredo, No. 3 Port of Los Angeles, No. 4 Pharr International Bridge in TX and No. 5 Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

In the last previous full year, the leading sources were No. 1 Mexico, No. 2 China, No. 3 Thailand, No. 4 Japan and No. 5 Indonesia. The leading sources were No. 1 Port of Los Angeles, No. 2 Port Laredo, No. 3 Los Angeles International Airport, No. 4 Chicago O'Hare International Airport and No. 5 Pharr International Bridge in TX.

  • Chicago O'Hare International Airport rose 135.4 percent compared to last year to $1.76 billion.
  • Port Laredo rose 9.71 percent compared to last year to $1.32 billion.
  • Port of Los Angeles rose 2.29 percent compared to last year to $1.24 billion.
  • Pharr International Bridge in TX rose 31.93 percent compared to last year to $901.75 million.
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport rose 133.24 percent compared to last year to $618.64 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign sources:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 Mexico increased $494.11 million, 16.61 percent, (27.31 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 Thailand increased $466.4 million, 46.79 percent, (11.52 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 Malaysia increased $775.63 million, 146.59 percent, (10.27 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 Indonesia increased $470.71 million, 70.89 percent, (8.93 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 China decreased $325.89 million, 28.79 percent, (6.35 percent market share).

All totaled, 64.37 percent of all these Miscellaneous electrical machinery imports to the United States were shipped from the top five sources through August of this year. That is equal to $8.18 billion of the $12.7 billion total.
