U.S. imports of Computer parts increased 50.95 percent through August to $51.03 billion

The category ranked 10 through August among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 10 for the last full year with a total value of $54.44 billion, a $22.36 billion, 69.70 percent increase from the 2023 total.

Through August of this year the leading sources were No. 1 Taiwan, No. 2 Vietnam, No. 3 South Korea, No. 4 China and No. 5 Malaysia. The leading sources were No. 1 San Francisco International Airport, CA, No. 2 Los Angeles International Airport, No. 3 Chicago O'Hare International Airport, No. 4 Anchorage International Airport, AK and No. 5 Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

In the last previous full year, the leading sources were No. 1 Taiwan, No. 2 China, No. 3 South Korea, No. 4 Vietnam and No. 5 Malaysia. The leading sources were No. 1 San Francisco International Airport, CA, No. 2 Los Angeles International Airport, No. 3 Chicago O'Hare International Airport, No. 4 Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and No. 5 Anchorage International Airport, AK.

  • Los Angeles International Airport rose 55.93 percent compared to last year to $6.41 billion.
  • Chicago O'Hare International Airport rose 48.14 percent compared to last year to $6.17 billion.
  • Anchorage International Airport, AK rose 80.07 percent compared to last year to $5.12 billion.
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport rose 4.49 percent compared to last year to $3.29 billion.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign sources:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 Taiwan increased $8.87 billion, 52.71 percent, (50.38 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 Vietnam increased $4.13 billion, 127.09 percent, (14.46 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 South Korea increased $1.67 billion, 43.58 percent, (10.77 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 China decreased $368.27 million, 8.42 percent, (7.85 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 Malaysia increased $1.18 billion, 58.8 percent, (6.27 percent market share).

All totaled, 89.72 percent of all these Computer parts imports to the United States were shipped from the top five sources through August of this year. That is equal to $45.79 billion of the $51.03 billion total.
