U.S. imports of Wrist watches, not precious metals increased 10.07 percent through August to $3.49 billion

The category ranked 117 through August among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 118 for the last full year with a total value of $4.92 billion, a $306.63 million, 6.65 percent increase from the 2023 total.

Through August of this year the leading sources were No. 1 Switzerland, No. 2 Japan, No. 3 China, No. 4 Germany and No. 5 Thailand. The leading sources were No. 1 John F. Kennedy International Airport, No. 2 Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, No. 3 Newark Liberty International Airport, NJ, No. 4 Los Angeles International Airport and No. 5 Miami International Airport.

In the last previous full year, the leading sources were No. 1 Switzerland, No. 2 Japan, No. 3 China, No. 4 Germany and No. 5 Thailand. The leading sources were No. 1 John F. Kennedy International Airport, No. 2 Los Angeles International Airport, No. 3 Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, No. 4 Newark Liberty International Airport, NJ and No. 5 FedEx Memphis WorldHub.

  • John F. Kennedy International Airport rose 15.14 percent compared to last year to $2.05 billion.
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport rose 32.2 percent compared to last year to $307.83 million.
  • Newark Liberty International Airport, NJ rose 22.29 percent compared to last year to $284.64 million.
  • Los Angeles International Airport fell 7.76 percent compared to last year to $278.62 million.
  • Miami International Airport rose 17.35 percent compared to last year to $134.87 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign sources:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 Switzerland increased $319.37 million, 11.83 percent, (86.47 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 Japan decreased $16.09 million, 5.63 percent, (7.73 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 China increased $1.09 million, 1.31 percent, (2.43 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 Germany increased $6.4 million, 18.84 percent, (1.16 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 Thailand increased $6.16 million, 25.42 percent, (0.87 percent market share).

All totaled, 98.64 percent of all these Wrist watches, not precious metals imports to the United States were shipped from the top five sources through August of this year. That is equal to $3.45 billion of the $3.49 billion total.
