  • Port of Newark fell 36.33 percent compared to last year to $52.13 million.
  • Port of Charleston rose 102.64 percent compared to last year to $34.24 million.
  • Port of Virginia fell 6.08 percent compared to last year to $22.89 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign sources:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 Germany decreased $12.43 million, 13.66 percent, (24.28 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 Switzerland increased $12.55 million, 21.15 percent, (22.22 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 Japan increased $1.85 million, 4.65 percent, (12.88 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 Italy decreased $6.57 million, 27.71 percent, (5.3 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 Taiwan decreased $3.05 million, 15.82 percent, (5.02 percent market share).

All totaled, 69.71 percent of all these Metal-finishing tools imports to the United States were shipped from the top five sources through August of this year. That is equal to $225.44 million of the $323.39 million total.
