U.S. imports of Fire extinguishers increased 6.18 percent through August to $8.7 million

The category ranked 1100 through August among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 1111 for the last full year with a total value of $11.14 million, a $3.7 million, 49.79 percent increase from the 2023 total.

Through August of this year the leading sources were No. 1 France, No. 2 Sweden, No. 3 Mexico, No. 4 Spain and No. 5 China. The leading sources were No. 1 Port of Houston, No. 2 Port of Newark, No. 3 FedEx Memphis WorldHub, No. 4 Brownsville International Bridges and No. 5 Port of Virginia.

In the last previous full year, the leading sources were No. 1 France, No. 2 Sweden, No. 3 Spain, No. 4 United Kingdom and No. 5 Mexico. The leading sources were No. 1 Port of Houston, No. 2 Port of Virginia, No. 3 Port of Newark, No. 4 Brownsville International Bridges and No. 5 John F. Kennedy International Airport.

  • Port of Houston rose 3.81 percent compared to last year to $2.59 million.
  • Port of Newark rose 6.35 percent compared to last year to $1.38 million.
  • FedEx Memphis WorldHub rose 360.74 percent compared to last year to $1.06 million.
  • Brownsville International Bridges rose 12.34 percent compared to last year to $849,886.
  • Port of Virginia fell 55.59 percent compared to last year to $785,718.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign sources:

  • U.S. imports from No. 1 France increased $1.04 million, 34.33 percent, (46.61 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 2 Sweden increased $320,808, 21.47 percent, (20.86 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 3 Mexico increased $84,051, 10.98 percent, (9.77 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 4 Spain decreased $365,000, 35.42 percent, (7.65 percent market share).
  • U.S. imports from No. 5 China increased $314,513, 199.23 percent, (5.43 percent market share).

All totaled, 90.3 percent of all these Fire extinguishers imports to the United States were shipped from the top five sources through August of this year. That is equal to $7.86 million of the $8.7 million total.
