U.S. exports of Wood charcoal decreased 9.34 percent through July to $12.47 million

U.S. exports of Wood charcoal decreased 9.34 percent from $13.76 million to $12.47 million through the first seven months of 2023 when compared to the same period the previous year, according to WorldCity analysis of the latest U.S. Census Bureau data.

The category ranked 994 through July among the roughly 1,265 export commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 1025 for the last full year with a total value of $18.28 million, a $7.96 million, 30.32 percent decreased from the 2021 total.

Through July of this year the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 Japan, No. 3 Mexico, No. 4 Oman and No. 5 Dominican Republic. The leading gateways were No. 1 Detroit Ambassador Bridge, Mich., No. 2 Pembina Border Crossing, N.D., No. 3 Port Huron Blue Water Bridge, Mich., No. 4 Port of Los Angeles and No. 5 Port Laredo.

In the last previous full year, the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 Norway, No. 3 Spain, No. 4 Oman and No. 5 Mexico.   • U.S. exports to No. 1 Canada decreased $196,319, 1.88 percent, (82.17 percent market share).
  • U.S. exports to No. 2 Japan increased $402,673, 247.07 percent, (4.54 percent market share).
  • U.S. exports to No. 3 Mexico increased $233,628, 85.91 percent, (4.05 percent market share).
  • U.S. exports to No. 4 Oman decreased $166,039, 58.12 percent, (0.96 percent market share).
  • U.S. exports to No. 5 Dominican Republic increased $38,911, 75.64 percent, (0.72 percent market share).

All totaled, 92.45 percent of all these Wood charcoal exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through July of this year. That is equal to $11.53 million of the $12.47 million total.
