U.S. exports of Uncoated paper, paperboard decreased 1.33 percent through August to $913.44 million

The category ranked 215 through August among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 218 for the last full year with a total value of $1.38 billion, a $106.8 million, 8.37 percent increase from the 2023 total.

Through August of this year the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 Mexico, No. 3 Costa Rica, No. 4 Colombia and No. 5 Honduras. The leading markets were No. 1 Buffalo Peace Bridge, NY, No. 2 Port Laredo, No. 3 Blaine / Surrey Border Crossing, WA, No. 4 Otay Mesa Freeway Border Crossing, CA and No. 5 Port of Gulfport, MS.

In the last previous full year, the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 Mexico, No. 3 Costa Rica, No. 4 Guatemala and No. 5 Honduras.   • Port Laredo fell 24.81 percent compared to last year to $93.49 million.
  • Blaine / Surrey Border Crossing, WA rose 18.09 percent compared to last year to $70.38 million.
  • Otay Mesa Freeway Border Crossing, CA fell 14.22 percent compared to last year to $66.77 million.
  • Port of Gulfport, MS rose 0.72 percent compared to last year to $44.38 million.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. export to No. 1 Canada increased $49.09 million, 12.79 percent, (47.41 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 2 Mexico decreased $75.61 million, 23.42 percent, (27.07 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 3 Costa Rica increased $12.08 million, 25.44 percent, (6.52 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 4 Colombia increased $9.73 million, 45.62 percent, (3.4 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 5 Honduras increased $1.39 million, 5.89 percent, (2.73 percent market share).

All totaled, 87.12 percent of all these Uncoated paper, paperboard exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through August of this year. That is equal to $795.8 million of the $913.44 million total.
