The leading markets were No. 1 Low-Value border crossing cargo, No. 2 Port of New York, No. 3 Port of Long Beach, No. 4 John F. Kennedy International Airport and No. 5 Port of Los Angeles.

In the last previous full year, the leading markets were No. 1 China, No. 2 Canada, No. 3 India, No. 4 South Korea and No. 5 Germany. The leading markets were No. 1 Port of New York, No. 2 Low-Value border crossing cargo, No. 3 Port of Los Angeles, No. 4 John F. Kennedy International Airport and No. 5 Detroit Ambassador Bridge, MI.

Looking at specific airports, seaports and border crossings, the top five through the first eight months of the year were:

  • Low-Value border crossing cargo rose 28.45 percent compared to last year to $744,442.
  • Port of New York fell 85.22 percent compared to last year to $176,520.
  • Port of Long Beach rose 45.66 percent compared to last year to $147,343.
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport fell 13.66 percent compared to last year to $126,547.
  • Port of Los Angeles fell 51.36 percent compared to last year to $116,595.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. export to No. 1 Canada increased $49,578, 5.79 percent, (47.92 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 2 China decreased $1.09 million, 71.26 percent, (23.3 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 3 France increased $91,201, 364.98 percent, (6.15 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 4 South Korea increased $31,963, 40.82 percent, (5.83 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 5 Japan increased $46,552, 87.28 percent, (5.28 percent market share).

All totaled, 88.47 percent of all these Ties, bow ties and cravats exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through August of this year. That is equal to $1.67 million of the $1.89 million total.
