U.S. exports of Misc. plastic plates, sheets and film decreased 1.37 percent through August to $2.57 billion

The category ranked 100 through August among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 100 for the last full year with a total value of $3.85 billion, a $256.72 million, 7.14 percent increase from the 2023 total.

Through August of this year the leading markets were No. 1 Mexico, No. 2 Canada, No. 3 China, No. 4 Germany and No. 5 Japan. The leading markets were No. 1 Port Laredo, No. 2 John F. Kennedy International Airport, No. 3 Port Huron Blue Water Bridge, MI, No. 4 Ysleta-Zaragoza International Bridge, TX and No. 5 Chicago O'Hare International Airport.

In the last previous full year, the leading markets were No. 1 Mexico, No. 2 Canada, No. 3 China, No. 4 United Kingdom and No. 5 Japan. The leading markets were No. 1 Port Laredo, No. 2 John F. Kennedy International Airport, No. 3 Buffalo Peace Bridge, NY, No. 4 Chicago O'Hare International Airport and No. 5 Ysleta-Zaragoza International Bridge, TX.

  • Port Laredo fell 21.62 percent compared to last year to $338.49 million.
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport rose 17.85 percent compared to last year to $244.12 million.
  • Port Huron Blue Water Bridge, MI rose 21.07 percent compared to last year to $130.92 million.
  • Ysleta-Zaragoza International Bridge, TX rose 3.5 percent compared to last year to $126.67 million.
  • Chicago O'Hare International Airport rose 1.75 percent compared to last year to $122.67 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. export to No. 1 Mexico decreased $124.89 million, 12.91 percent, (32.78 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 2 Canada decreased $19,304, 0 percent, (19.24 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 3 China increased $2.9 million, 1.09 percent, (10.46 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 4 Germany increased $15.52 million, 17.87 percent, (3.98 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 5 Japan decreased $6.31 million, 6.3 percent, (3.65 percent market share).

All totaled, 70.11 percent of all these Misc. plastic plates, sheets and film exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through August of this year. That is equal to $1.8 billion of the $2.57 billion total.
