U.S. exports of Man-made filament yarn increased 1.23 percent through August to $4.75 million

The category ranked 1089 through August among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 1102 for the last full year with a total value of $6.83 million, a $580,335, 7.84 percent decreased from the 2023 total.

Through August of this year the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 Mexico, No. 3 El Salvador, No. 4 Germany and No. 5 China. The leading markets were No. 1 Low-Value border crossing cargo, No. 2 Port Laredo, No. 3 Port of Savannah, GA, No. 4 Port of Wilmington, NC and No. 5 Los Angeles International Airport.

In the last previous full year, the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 El Salvador, No. 3 Mexico, No. 4 Sri Lanka and No. 5 Japan. The leading markets were No. 1 Low-Value border crossing cargo, No. 2 Port of Savannah, GA, No. 3 Los Angeles International Airport, No. 4 Port of Wilmington, NC and No. 5 Otay Mesa Freeway Border Crossing, CA.

  • Port Laredo rose 250.51 percent compared to last year to $656,856.
  • Port of Savannah, GA fell 10.7 percent compared to last year to $450,578.
  • Port of Wilmington, NC fell 44.74 percent compared to last year to $217,432.
  • Los Angeles International Airport fell 46.61 percent compared to last year to $170,411.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. export to No. 1 Canada increased $275,254, 15.53 percent, (43.12 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 2 Mexico increased $355,464, 49.34 percent, (22.66 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 3 El Salvador decreased $410,170, 50.16 percent, (8.58 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 4 Germany increased $186,805, 342.57 percent, (5.08 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 5 China increased $169,739, 308.74 percent, (4.73 percent market share).

All totaled, 84.17 percent of all these Man-made filament yarn exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through August of this year. That is equal to $4 million of the $4.75 million total.
