U.S. exports of Lab, pharma glassware increased 1.92 percent through August to $171.85 million

The category ranked 538 through August among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 551 for the last full year with a total value of $253.51 million, a $4.91 million, 1.98 percent increase from the 2023 total.

Through August of this year the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 The Netherlands, No. 3 Singapore, No. 4 Germany and No. 5 China. The leading markets were No. 1 FedEx Memphis WorldHub, No. 2 Boston's Logan International Airport, No. 3 San Francisco International Airport, CA, No. 4 Low-Value border crossing cargo and No. 5 John F. Kennedy International Airport.

In the last previous full year, the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 The Netherlands, No. 3 China, No. 4 Singapore and No. 5 Germany. The leading markets were No. 1 FedEx Memphis WorldHub, No. 2 John F. Kennedy International Airport, No. 3 Boston's Logan International Airport, No. 4 Cleveland's Hopkins International Airport, OH and No. 5 Chicago O'Hare International Airport.

  • FedEx Memphis WorldHub rose 5.05 percent compared to last year to $22.46 million.
  • Boston's Logan International Airport rose 43.59 percent compared to last year to $17.73 million.
  • San Francisco International Airport, CA rose 60.44 percent compared to last year to $14.59 million.
  • Low-Value border crossing cargo rose 3.38 percent compared to last year to $12.48 million.
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport fell 18.99 percent compared to last year to $11.53 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. export to No. 1 Canada increased $1.45 million, 6 percent, (14.85 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 2 The Netherlands increased $4.62 million, 22.41 percent, (14.69 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 3 Singapore increased $3.09 million, 19.69 percent, (10.92 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 4 Germany increased $2.92 million, 21.34 percent, (9.66 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 5 China decreased $1.43 million, 8.06 percent, (9.52 percent market share).

All totaled, 59.63 percent of all these Lab, pharma glassware exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through August of this year. That is equal to $102.48 million of the $171.85 million total.
