The leading markets were No. 1 Port of Savannah, GA, No. 2 Port Laredo, No. 3 Port Huron Blue Water Bridge, MI, No. 4 Detroit Ambassador Bridge, MI and No. 5 Port of Virginia.

In the last previous full year, the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 Mexico, No. 3 Japan, No. 4 United Kingdom and No. 5 Germany.   • Port Laredo fell 5.64 percent compared to last year to $188.47 million.
  • Port Huron Blue Water Bridge, MI fell 17.53 percent compared to last year to $85.22 million.
  • Detroit Ambassador Bridge, MI rose 6.81 percent compared to last year to $81.46 million.
  • Port of Virginia fell 7.1 percent compared to last year to $51.73 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. export to No. 1 Canada decreased $42.88 million, 9.66 percent, (36.12 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 2 Mexico decreased $18.07 million, 7.84 percent, (19.11 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 3 Japan decreased $7.63 million, 9.59 percent, (6.48 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 4 United Kingdom decreased $4.28 million, 6.11 percent, (5.92 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 5 The Netherlands increased $10.13 million, 23.56 percent, (4.78 percent market share).

All totaled, 72.4 percent of all these Kaolin-coated paper, paperboard exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through August of this year. That is equal to $804.43 million of the $1.11 billion total.
