U.S. exports of Gimped yarn increased 19.72 percent through August to $24.52 million

The category ranked 902 through August among the roughly 1,265 import commodity groupings as classified by Census. It ranked No. 922 for the last full year with a total value of $34.2 million, a $2.62 million, 8.29 percent increase from the 2023 total.

Through August of this year the leading markets were No. 1 El Salvador, No. 2 Honduras, No. 3 Canada, No. 4 Mexico and No. 5 Sri Lanka. The leading markets were No. 1 Port Miami, No. 2 Low-Value border crossing cargo, No. 3 Port Everglades, No. 4 Pharr International Bridge in TX and No. 5 Port of New York.

In the last previous full year, the leading markets were No. 1 Honduras, No. 2 El Salvador, No. 3 Canada, No. 4 Mexico and No. 5 China. The leading markets were No. 1 Port Miami, No. 2 Low-Value border crossing cargo, No. 3 Port Everglades, No. 4 Pharr International Bridge in TX and No. 5 Port of Wilmington, NC.

  • Low-Value border crossing cargo rose 39.45 percent compared to last year to $3.53 million.
  • Port Everglades rose 10.29 percent compared to last year to $2.64 million.
  • Pharr International Bridge in TX rose 3.77 percent compared to last year to $1.65 million.
  • Port of New York rose 1639 percent compared to last year to $1.54 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. export to No. 1 El Salvador increased $1.92 million, 38.23 percent, (28.35 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 2 Honduras decreased $1.53 million, 23.13 percent, (20.76 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 3 Canada increased $882,623, 26.85 percent, (17.01 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 4 Mexico increased $250,886, 14.64 percent, (8.01 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 5 Sri Lanka increased $1.54 million, 958.53 percent, (6.95 percent market share).

All totaled, 81.07 percent of all these Gimped yarn exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through August of this year. That is equal to $19.88 million of the $24.52 million total.
