In the last previous full year, the leading markets were No. 1 Canada, No. 2 China, No. 3 Mexico, No. 4 Japan and No. 5 Australia. The leading markets were No. 1 Detroit Ambassador Bridge, MI, No. 2 Port of Los Angeles, No. 3 Port Laredo, No. 4 Port Huron Blue Water Bridge, MI and No. 5 Buffalo Peace Bridge, NY.

  • Port of Long Beach rose 58.43 percent compared to last year to $247.69 million.
  • Port Laredo rose 0.24 percent compared to last year to $227.7 million.
  • Buffalo Peace Bridge, NY fell 0.26 percent compared to last year to $212.46 million.

There are several hundred airports, seaports and border crossings that handle international trade; they are, in turn, part of the roughly four dozen U.S. Customs districts.

Highlights for the top five foreign markets:

  • U.S. export to No. 1 Canada decreased $52.5 million, 5.04 percent, (34.2 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 2 China decreased $7.66 million, 2.42 percent, (10.67 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 3 Mexico decreased $15.06 million, 5.13 percent, (9.64 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 4 Japan decreased $592,905, 0.5 percent, (4.09 percent market share).
  • U.S. export to No. 5 Australia increased $9.44 million, 11.86 percent, (3.08 percent market share).

All totaled, 61.68 percent of all these Food for dogs, cats, other animals exports from the United States were shipped to the top five markets through August of this year. That is equal to $1.78 billion of the $2.89 billion total.
